A LANDMARK country inn in Lydgate is the only hostelry in Oldham to receive an accolade in a prestigious food guide.

The White Hart at Lydgate is just one of three pubs in Greater Manchester to be highlighted in this year’s Michelin Eating Out in Pubs guide.
The recommended 570 pubs, including 70 new entries, are selected first and foremost for the quality of their food – and the White Hart received a special symbol as a favourite with their food Inspector.
The guide’s editor, Rebecca Burr, said: “Reports of the death of the British pub have been grossly exaggerated.
“We now recommend more pubs than ever before and the great news is they are spread all over Great Britain and Ireland, rather than just being concentrated in a few counties.
“No one has to put up with bad food in a pub anymore, however picturesque that pub may be,” she declared.
“The pubs in our guide have been rigorously inspected by our team of full-time inspectors – the same team who produce the Michelin Guide to Great Britain andIreland – and highlight that pubs serving good food are thriving.
“Many of the establishments in this guide are traditional pubs playing a big part in the local community, complete with quiz nights and themed evenings.”
She added: “Pubs offering something extra special are given our ‘Inspectors’ Favourites’ stamp. That could be because they are one of the 47 pubs with a Bib Gourmand – our award for great value cooking; they could be great all-rounders.”
The White Hart’s head chef, Michael Shaw said “We have a loyal customer base of regulars and visitors who like good food. It;s a pleasure to serve them.”
The other two Greater Manchester pubs featured are the Victoria in Altrincham and The Oddfellows in Mellor. The guide’s Pub of the Year 2014, was won by The Greyhound on the Test in Stockbridge, Hampshire.
Each entry in the guide features a colour photo and an in-depth description, along with examples of typical dishes, a list of real ales served and whether they have bedrooms. Opening times, prices and directions are included, plus regional maps and indexes by both pub and town name.
The Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2014 is in bookshops now, priced at £13.99 (€14.99 in Ireland).
