Maggie’s Oldham opens doors for ‘Talk and Tour’ event

STATE-OF-THE-ART facilities at Maggie’s Oldham will be on display at a special ‘Talk and Tour’ on Thursday, August 3 from 2.30-4pm.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will be hosting the free ‘talk and tour’ of the new cancer centre at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The event will be an opportunity for staff, public and Trust members to speak with staff and patients and to learn more about what Maggie’s Oldham has to offer.

Maggie’s Oldham has been built in the grounds of The Royal Oldham Hospital and was developed in partnership with the Trust to enhance the cancer care and support already on offer.

Maggie’s Oldham offers a way of living well with cancer and making sure people with cancer, as well as their family and friends, are really listened to, and offered tailored individual support, group support and practical advice.

This is all delivered by qualified professionals within a space that enables them to meet other people who are living with cancer.

The centre offers psychological support, benefits advice, nutrition workshops, relaxation and stress management, art therapy and yoga.

Bernie Byrne, Centre Head at Maggie’s Oldham said: “The tour and talk will explore the relationship between architecture and wellbeing and our unique approach to cancer support.

“There has been significant research over recent years about architecture’s profound impact and effect on wellbeing; this is something we see the benefit of every day.

“At Maggie’s we work with highly renowned architects to deliver these amazing spaces. This has been the unique approach of Maggie’s Centres over the last 21 years and we continue to influence architecture in the health and social care sectors.”

She added: “Maggie’s Oldham has only been open one month and has already been nominated for numerous awards to celebrate the architecture and design of the Centre.

“We look forward to welcoming you to Maggie’s and sharing some more about our unique approach to cancer support.”

The talk and tour will be held on Thursday, August 3 from 2.30-4pm at the Maggie’s Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Road, Oldham.

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides.
