A MAGNIFICENT £15,250 was donated to charities and good causes by outgoing Saddleworth Parish Council chairman Cllr Enid Firth.
With the help of the Chairman’s Charity Committee, the money was raised over the last year with fundraisers including a cream tea, coffee mornings, a psychic night, a fashion show and more.
A large portion of the funds was shared between Cllr Firth’s three main chosen charities: Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The remainder was split between local charities and groups: the Hawkyard and Whitehead Educational Foundation; Saddleworth Folk Festival; Delph Senior Citizens; Boarshurst Band; Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline; Oldham Cats; Adventure Based Learning; Diggle Diamonds; Uppermill Carers; Saddleworth Morris Men; Lighthouse School; Springhead Community Centre; Grotton Residents Association; Denshaw Community Association; and St John the Baptist Church, Hey.
Cllr Firth commented: “I am so pleased with what we’ve raised. I have done my best to share it out as much as I can.
“Everybody gives money to the big charities but it is the small ones who appreciate the money too.
“I have chose the community groups as I know they are struggling and I think it is very important we help to keep them going.”
