A TOP high school for girls is celebrating after making history by achieving the most successful set of A-level examination results in their 141-year existence.

78 per cent of grades achieved by bright pupils at Manchester High School for Girls were the sought-after A* or A, while 98 per cent of all grades attained were in the A* to B range.
The remarkable achievement for Manchester’s oldest girls’ school follows their superb set of International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma results.
Students undertaking the qualification at Manchester High scored on average 38 points, putting them well ahead of the average global score of 30 points.
And a third of the students made it into the top 3 per cent of IB results worldwide – including clever Greenfield pupil Phoebe Price who scored an incredible 42 points.
Mrs Claire Hewitt, Head Mistress at Manchester High School for Girls, said: “Year on year Manchester High girls achieve some of the best examination results in the country and our alumnae include highly influential women who lead the way in their chosen fields.
“Be it business or politics, engineering or medicine, fashion or languages, Manchester High girls really do go on to build amazing careers.
“The fact that this year’s Senior Sixth have secured the best A-level results in our history leaves me in no doubt that these young women are the leaders of tomorrow.
“Not only have they applied themselves to their studies but they have embraced the many extra-curricular opportunities available, from sport and charity work to music and the arts.”
The overwhelming majority of Manchester High students will be heading to their first choice university in September, with six girls achieving the grades for coveted places at Oxford or Cambridge.
Mrs Hewitt added: “These momentous results reflect not only the hard work and commitment of our students but the dedication of our expert teachers who really go the extra mile to inspire the girls to reach their full potential.
“I should like to congratulate them all and wish the Class of 2015 the very best for their studies and future careers.”
