THE MAYOR and Mayoress of Oldham were guests of honour at a special visit to Bright Futures School for children with autism in Grasscroft.
Mayor Cllr Derek Heffernan, accompanied by his wife Di, were welcomed to the school on Oldham Road by pupils and staff.
The couple, who live in Austerlands, spent time talking to students Marley, Matthew and Harry about activities at the school, which range from classroom lessons to cooking, swimming and working on a nearby farm.
They also spoke about their past experience of bullying at other schools, and what had helped them settle at Bright Futures.
Marley presented a bright bouquet of flowers to the Mayoress before the three pupils and staff proudly gave a guided tour of the school, including their recently opened classroom.
The classroom was built and opened thanks to fundraising by the Friends of Bright Futures along with money provided by the school.
More funds are now being raised as the school looks to provide an Adobe Creative Suite and other IT-related equipment and technology for their pupils.
And an impressive £970 was added to their funds thanks to a hugely popular a Lionel Ritchie Tribute Night at The Royal George in Greenfield last month.
