Millie’s make a mark on Swan Meadow Nursery

AN outstanding nursery in Delph is certainly making its mark after receiving a prestigious award for going above and beyond to keep their children safe.

Swan Meadow Nursery was awarded Millie’s Mark for the first time ever last November after six months of hard work to prove their commitment to paediatric first aid.

The managers, along with the Early Years Practitioners, completed the self-assessment which was verified by the National Day Nurseries Association in association with the Department for Education and charity Millie’s Trust.

The nursery said: “Over the past six months we have been working very hard to achieve this ward, which acts as an indicator that we go above and beyond the minimum requirements to keep children safe and minimise risks and accidents.

“We are delighted that our efforts have been rewarded and that we have achieved this very special award.”

All members of staff – about 30 – are trained in paediatric first aid, as is the team of around the same size at the nursery’s second site in Denshaw.

And they celebrated the award by hosting a tea party for children and their families, as well as special guest Millie’s giraffe.

There were activities for all to take part in, including some first aid themed ones such as putting on bandages, before everyone tucked into a delicious afternoon tea.

Always looking to be one step ahead, the nursery is already working towards its next mission – fundraising £450 for Little Anne, Little Junior and CPR dolls.

Amy and Ashley explained: “Although we are now an official Millie’s Mark awarded nursery, our hard work of continuously developing our quality care and education will not stop.

“It is crucial that we maintain the criteria over its three-year lifespan before reassessment.

“We are putting on fundraising activities and hope to raise £450 for the full set of dolls by the summer term to enhance our in-house training.”

Swan Meadow Nursery caters for children from six weeks to five years old at sites in Delph and Denshaw, which have both recently been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Find out more online:
