Mum’s mural brightens up children’s centre

A CARING mum has helped to brighten up a children’s centre in Mossley by donating a colourful and cheerful wall mural.

Anna Hennessy, who runs Anabobanna’s Bedtime Murals, decided to paint the mural on the outside wall of Roughtown Community Centre to bring some life to their garden area.p19 mossley mural

Anna, who attends a children’s group at the centre with her son Daniel, explained: “I wanted to give something back to the centre as think it is an amazing place to have on my doorstep.

“On a Tuesday and Friday term time there is a children’s play group session run and funded by local mums.

“Recently there have not been enough people on a Tuesday and this could lead to the play group being shut, which would be devastating.

“I just want to play my part and I hope people can see what a wonderful centre it is and what it has to offer.”

Anna’s acrylic paint mural features a colourful hand-painted mural of plants and shrubbery with small garden creatures hidden in the picture.

She had never previously painted an outside mural and admitted it was trickier than she expected.

She said: “It took two weeks, which was longer than I thought it would, and there was lots of rain at the start so I had to rush at the end to get it finished on time.”

Oldham blacksmith Michael Lees has donated a hanging rail for displaying flowers around the mural, which will be planted by the centre’s children’s gardening club.

Delighted Angie Watson, the centre’s co-ordinator, said: “The mural looks fabulous. It really brightens up our little outside decking area, which was such a drab space before.

“Our new gardening club will be planting around the area and it will make it a nicer space to sit out in on a sunny day.”

Roughtown Community Centre runs activities and sessions at evenings and weekends, including martial arts, Zumba, language lessons, music for tots and adults, ballet and much more.
