National call-up for young rugby stars

RISING STAR: Adam Davies

YOUNG RUGBY League player Adam Davies’ family don’t have to worry about raising the money to fund his trip to Malta after he was selected to play for Great Britain Emerging Lions.

Home club Waterhead held an event for the 16-year-old with the day raising £1,002.

Mum Sharon explained the money more than covered the cost of the trip with the surplus donated to the rugby club.

She said: “I was overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community.

“Everyone rallied round and showed their support for Adam and made sure the day was a success.”

MEANWHILE, Adam’s cousin George Ford is inching ever closer to a debut for the full England Rugby Union team.

The 20-year-old Bath fly half, who was raised in Grasscroft, was included in England’s squad for the Six Nations Championship.

George, who did not feature in England’s first two games, was a replacement for the dramatic 13-10 against Ireland, but was not summoned on to the field.
