Naughty delights

FOURTEEN YEARS ago a Dobcross post master tasted his first mouthful of Naughty Pudding – and now he has made it his mission to share the delightful dessert in aid of charity.

Sukhi Singh has teamed up with Fresca Italian Restaurant to add the traditional Saddleworth pudding, which Sukhi has secretly adapted, to their menu for two days only to raise funds for The GEM Appeal.

Only Sukhi knows the exact ingredients but when asked to describe the pudding he explained: “It’s a sultana, hazelnut and chocolate chip base, softened with a hint of coffee before being covered with fresh vanilla custard and whipped cream. The pudding is topped with fruit compote.”

Sukhi’s delicious Naughty Pudding passed the BBC taste test in 2009 when he beat thousands of other hopefuls to secure a place on Masterchef.

But this March, viewers of Food Glorious Food witnessed judge Tom Parker Bowles offering less favourable comments and declared the coffee taste to be overpowering.

But Sukhi revealed he has been inundated with requests from locals who desperately want to taste the pudding and judge it for themselves.

So, on Friday, September 13 and Saturday 14, Naughty Pudding will be on the pudding list at Fresca, a contemporary Italian restaurant off Delph New Road, and Sukhi will be on hand to record tasters’ opinions.

A spokesperson for Fresca said: “As we are one of Sukhi’s favourite local restaurants he approached us with the idea of offering his publically-debated Naughty Pudding to our customers.

“With the national hype it created on television we wanted to give our customers the exclusive opportunity to try it themselves.

“The GEM Appeal is our chosen charity, which Fresca regularly supports, and The Naughty Pudding tasting will be a great evening with a purpose.”

All proceeds from the pudding will be donated to The GEM Appeal, a research facility for incurable genetic diseases in children.
