New captain at helm for Delph Cricket Club for new season

DELPH CRICKET Club has a new player at the helm for their Huddersfield League campaign which begins on April 18.

Grant Jones has stood down as captain after 15 continuous years deciding it is time for a change.

Lancashire player Arron Lilley skippers the side which aims to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish.

Delph have not retained the services of overseas player Jamshed Ahmad while Craig Fletcher has left to return to Kirkburton.

But they have been replaced by Lancashire under-19 batsman Chris Laker, from Dukinfield, and former Droylsden opening bowler Wasim Qaseem.

“It is a strong league with a lot of good clubs so fourth place last season was probably a fair reflection of the season,” explained Jones.

Delph have home friendlies on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12 against Uppermill and Friarmere, both starting at 1pm.

  1. I thought the club was called Delph and Dobcross Cricket Club, I would have though a Saddleworth newspaper/website would have managed to get the name of a local club right. Next you will be saying Saddleworth is in Lancashire like the Huddersfield Examiner always do!
