AIMEE HOWARTH is taking over the Editor’s chair and becoming Publisher of the Saddleworth Independent which celebrates its third birthday this month.
Aimee, 22, from Grasscroft has worked for the multi-award winning newspaper for several years – building an all-round reputation as an authoritative writer on news, features and sport.

She gained an English degree at the University of York, where she also edited a student newspaper and will shortly complete the National Council for Training of Journalists (NCTJ) qualification, the country’s benchmark for quality journalism.
Aimee has formed Local Communications Limited and takes over the Saddleworth Independent from its founder Ken Bennett, a former senior Fleet Street news and features executive with more than 55 years’ experience in media.
Said Ken: “Aimee is loyal, conscientious, extremely hard working and has a very happy and understanding nature.
“She is committed to support, fight and challenge issues in our community and will uphold – and develop – new strands for the paper.
“I have always believed in giving industrious people of any age a chance to shine and Aimee is surrounded by a dedicated, talented team of writers and local columnists – the bedrock of the Independent’s success.”
Ken will remain as the Independent’s Associate Editor and continue to write for the paper, which, under his direction, has claimed three major accolades in the O2 North West Media Awards.
Aimee, who has a twin sister Emma and a younger brother Richard, said: “It’s a dream come true to take responsibility of this much-loved newspaper in the area I grew up in.
“I look forward to the Independent developing with my partner Alan from the fantastic start Ken has given it.”
