MILES Greenwood hopes to turn around fortunes at Saddleworth Rangers ARLFC, with the players’ input.
The former semi-professional, who turned out for Oldham, Hunslet, Halifax, Batley and Rochdale during his playing career, has taken the reins at Shaw Hall Bank Road.
Relegation has left Rangers in Division Three of the National Conference League, the bottom tier.
But the 37-year-old, who has a connection to the club through his uncle, Emmerson Jackman, believes he can bring the good times back to Greenfield.

First of all, however, was finding out why the players think things turned sour.
Greenwood said: “Before pre-season started, I sat down with the players and challenged them about why they thought it hasn’t happened over the past few seasons.
“It was an open, transparent forum. I asked for honesty and the players were honest, they brought some good points up and as a club we’ll take them on board.
“There’s no point asking the players for their input if we’re not going to listen to them. If we can right those wrongs, it will put us in a good position.”
Greenwood already believes he has seen more enthusiasm in his pre-season sessions, which are building up to Rangers’ NCL opener against Beverley on Saturday, March 22.
Seeing several players in a joint first team/under-18s runout in a gale and rain at Saddleworth School showed that.

But as he looks to bring in more talent, the right talent, he believes he can bring them together and get them firing.
He added to Saddleworth Independent: “The last few years have been a bit crap to put it bluntly.
“But that gives us a great opportunity and that’s how I’m looking at it. It’s a great opportunity to bring some positivity in and around the club.
“I bring a fresh approach, some positivity and I hope that rubs off on to the players. I know it’s very early in pre-season but we’ve had some really good sessions. Hopefully, that gives me something to build on.
“I’m looking to bring that energy and enthusiasm back. I’ve seen that from the few sessions we’ve had.
“I’m working hard behind the scenes to bring in some new recruits. I’m looking to bring in the right players – players who want to play for the club. I’m not interested in bringing in people who aren’t going to be fully into it.
“That’s not the attitude to have at this level.”
Finally, Greenwood will have familiar faces hoping he does the business at Rangers.
And he feels getting them winning bring smiles to them.
He continued: “It’s been a long time in the making. There were a lot of conversations and meetings, a lot of phone calls.
“My connection with the club is through my uncle. He played here all his life, so I’d come and watch.
“So I’ve always had an affiliation with the club and two of three months ago, it reached out and said, ‘We’re rebuilding. It’s a real project, would you like to be involved?’ It just went from there.
“It’s a well established club. It’s a club that’s produced some real quality players and it’s a popular club.
“Look at some of the youngsters, they’ve got loads of players, so the popularity is still there.”
