Home Instead Senior Care, which provides at-home care for older people, held the free Alzheimer’s and other dementias workshops during National Dementia Awareness Week.

The ground-breaking workshops aimed to help both carers and community members and, after extremely positive responses, more sessions are in the pipeline for September.

Mick Sheehan, owner of Home Instead’s Saddleworth and Oldham Office on Uppermill High Street, said: “I was delighted with the number of people who attended our workshops and with the feedback we received.

“My hope is those who undertook the training will be able to share their knowledge with others, causing a domino effect across the community.

“As our ageing population continues to increase we will see more and more people we know and love being affected by dementia, so it’s important we are better prepared to help deal with and understand the disease.”

The workshops aim to help families and professionals identify typical signs of dementia and gain a better understanding so they can manage and support people living with the condition.

Home Instead, an award-winning nationwide company, also offers tailored services for older people seven days a week including companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, shopping and errands.

The Saddleworth and Oldham office, in its fourth year, moved to Uppermill last December when then Mayor of Oldham Councillor Olwen Chadderton attended the opening to making proceedings official.
