A TALENTED Saddleworth chef has put his own stamp on an ancient inn’s mouth-watering dishes – earning him a coveted one AA Rosette Award.
Mark Pemberton, head chef at The Old Bell Inn at Delph, impressed with his exciting signature menu to clinch the hard-earned honour.

The award recognises culinary excellence, which includes a clear understanding of food prepared with care and skill.
Mark, 34, said: “We’re delighted with this award. It’s a huge achievement for our team as well as for me personally.
“I have been in catering for 18 years and have been fortunate enough to work in many high class establishments. However, this is the pinnacle of my career to date.
“I am really passionate about British cuisine and have expressed this with mysignature menu. It is modern British food with my own unique twist.
“I’m thrilled the AA have recognised the quality of my signature dishes – they are very popular with our appreciative customers too,” he added.
The Old Bell’s owner, Phil Whiteman, added: “It’s a terrific accolade for Mark and all our hard-working team. Everyone is proud to share in the achievement.”
Mark was presented with the award by Andrew Ford, the AA’s UK area manager senior hotel and restaurant inspector, who said: “Mark’s skill and care in his food preparation really shines through.
“I’m pleased his great personal efforts have been recognised and he is a real credit to our award scheme.”
AA Rosettes were first introduced more than fifty years ago and of all restaurants across the UK, only 10 per cent are at a standard worthy of one Rosette and above.
Simon Numphud, AA Hotel Services business manager, commented: “The achievement of a one AA Rosette Award recognises high standards, consistency and precision, serving food prepared with care and with evident selection of fresh, seasonal, quality ingredients.
“Good understanding and use of technical skills are demonstrated in the cooking, with clarity of flavours shining through.”
