Oldham Jelly free co-working event launched

IF YOU are a small business owner or work from home, while you relish the independence, you have at some point probably pined for a bit of company other than Facebook.

Fortunately ‘Oldham Jelly’ has arrived – the borough’s new free co-working event that launches at Oldham Library on Wednesday, November 20.Oldham Jelly

From 10am-4pm freelancers, home workers and owners of small and micro businesses can bring in their laptop and work to hit the daily grind surrounded by like-minded people.

Whether you want to chat with other entrepreneurs, give or take advice, strike up collaborations or simply get some work done without the cat pestering, you can do it informally with the added bonus of coffee.

The event is open to anyone to attend and an Oldham Jelly’s Twitter account has been created to share updates and information with visitors.

About the sessions, it tweeted: “Free wi-fi will be available, bring your library card or join on the day. Look forward to seeing you there!”

The initiative is not a networking event to help find new clients or sell yourself to other businesses but is designed to simply create a relaxed environment for people to enjoy and work in.

Susan Witterick, of dBx Acoustics Ltd, based in Oldham, spoke of how sometimes working independently can become a bit of a drag.

“Working for yourself can be great fun and very liberating, but sometimes we all need some company, coffee and a change of scene,” she said.

“I’m hoping Oldham Jelly will become a regular event where local businesses can get together informally and hopefully enjoy ourselves.”

Following Wednesday’s event Oldham Jelly will be taking place at the library on the third Wednesday of every month.
