JOIN OLDHAM Mountain Rescue Team for a special occasion as they celebrate their 50th anniversary with a Grand Open Day on Sunday, July 13.
The event, at King George V Playing Field in UPpermill, runs from 10am to 3pm to celebrate the team’s work over the decades to help the community and alleviate distress in remote and difficult areas.
The all-volunteer team was formed in 1964 as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation after the tragedy of the Four Inns Walk that year and they had gone from strength to strength.
The Anniversary event includes a chance to meet the Team and see its specialised equipment and the team vehicles used over the years.
There will be a climbing wall (with tuition) and a rescue cableway – similar to a zip-wire – for people to take part in, as well as geocaching.
A Hog Roast, Beer Tent, Fake Wound painting and many other attractions will also be on offer, and team members and dogs will be on hand to show you around.
