OLDHAM became the third Betfred League 1 side to overturn Championship opposition in round four of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup with a stunning 27-6 triumph against Halifax last night on the Yorkshire side’s own patch at the MBi Shay Stadium.

Scott Naylor’s men dominated for most of the game and fully deserved a fifth-round shot at Super League’s Hull KR, a side they famously knocked out of the same competition two years ago.
In springing a surprise at Halifax they scored tries by Danny Langtree, Ben West, Matt Reid and Paul Crook, while Crook landed five goals and David Hewitt dropped a goal to extend the visitors lead to 21-6 with ten minutes left.
Former Oldham player Ben Heaton scored Halifax’s only try, goaled by Steve Tyrer, 16 minutes into the second half to cut the Roughyeds’ lead to 14-6, but the dogged and determined visitors quickly hit back to book their place in round five with late tries by Reid and Crook.
“It was a terrific performance and fully deserved,” enthused delighted Oldham boss Scott Naylor.
