OLDHAM STUDENTS are celebrating their A-Level success with early indications revealing the borough’s results are higher than the national average.
The provisional overall pass rate from A-E was 98.4 per cent – 0.3 per cent higher than the average across the country.
Nationally the numbers of A-Level students progressing to university has increased this year and it is anticipated this will also be reflected in Oldham.
Councillor Shoab Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We’re pleased with the overall pass rate in Oldham which many students, parents, governors and school staff have all contributed towards.
“Improving education and ensuring every young person has the best opportunity to succeed when they leave school or college is a top priority for the council and its partners.
“The final report of the Oldham Education and Skills Commission is due next month and will lay down a clear path showing how everyone can help to raise education standards across the board.”
Councillor Akhtar advises students that help on the next steps is available from the schools, colleges, careers advisors and the council’s Get Oldham Working team.
He said: “For some there will be great news, but there are bound to be others who didn’t got what they needed to meet their first choice.
“Hope is not lost and the first step is to speak to the experts to find out what range of options are open, whether that be going through UCAS clearing, apprenticeships or employment.”
