AN OLDHAM man who turned to art after losing the ability to walk is opening his first solo exhibition in Gallery Oldham.
Garry Holt from Royton was left with a rare form of Motor Neurone disease after a routine operation.
Whilst undergoing specialist care at the Floyd Neuro Rehabilitation Unit at Birch Hill Hospital Garry was introduced to art therapy and quickly became adept in making collages.
On Saturday, March 19 between 1pm and 4pm in the Community Gallery Garry will explain how art therapy helped him to overcome his depression during his treatment and how it still helps him to get through his darker days.
Joy Thorpe, Community Curator, said: “Garry’s work is stunning, really thought provoking. We are delighted to host his first solo exhibition in the town.
“We have dedicated our Community Gallery to local artists, schools and groups for more than 10 years now and this is the first time we have had an exhibition of collage.
“The work is fresh and different and enhances our new season of exhibitions.”
‘Hidden in the Backseat of my Head’ runs from March 19 to May 7 in the Community Gallery.

Good luck, Garry. Yours is an inspirational story.
