DEMENTIA CAN be difficult to live with and even harder to talk about – but a dedicated home care company in Uppermill is urging people to speak out during Dementia Awareness Week.

Home Instead Senior Care Oldham and Saddleworth, based on the village High Street, wants people to open up about their experiences and problems during the national campaign from May 18-24.
Mick Sheehan, Director of the branch, said: “If you’re worried that you, or someone close to you, may have dementia, it can be difficult to talk about.
“You may feel scared, confused or even ashamed. You may also be hoping the problem will go away so you don’t have to deal with it.
“But if you’re seriously concerned and the problem continues, it’s important to talk to someone. The sooner you know what you’re dealing with, the sooner you can get on with your life and feel in control again.
“That’s why this Dementia Awareness Week is all about opening up. We want anyone who’s concerned about dementia to stop bottling it up and to talk about it.”
Throughout Dementia Awareness Week, The Alzheimer’s Society will be hosting national and regional awareness-raising and fundraising events across the United Kingdom and have a dedicated phone number for people to get in touch 0300 222 1122
And Home Instead is offering support locally as they host a free Family Dementia Workshop on Thursday, May 22 from 10am-1.30pm at Millercare’s showroom, 2-6 Huddersfield Road, Oldham.
The workshop aims to help raise awareness and support family carers of those with Alzheimer’s or any other form of Dementia.
