Party spirit at Sadd Fest 14

PARTY-GOERS BRAVED rain and blustery winds to celebrate a musical feast at a charity fundraiser.

Scores of people turned out to enjoy a dazzling eight-hour line-up of musical talent at Sadd Fest 14 at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club ground in Greenfield.

And, although they had to dodge sporadic showers, they held picnics, danced, sang and applauded top local musicians.

Elated members of Saddleworth Round Table who organised the event said: “It was a roaring success – a truly fabulous event with a marvellous festival atmosphere.”

And they promised the festival will return for the third time next year – even bigger and better.

Dave MacDougall, festival organiser, said: “We’ve already had terrific feedback and compliments. And some sponsors have committed to underpin next year’s event.

“We’d like to thank everyone who turned out to support the festival.”

Matthew Sykes, Round Table’s chairman, added: “The up-tempo line up of bands created a magical vibe.

“Everyone forgot about the weather and just got on enjoying themselves.”

The show opened in bright sunshine to rousing music from Jonny Hick’s Jukejoint Allstars and Double D.

Vocal artist Lauren Housley, who is tipped to be the next big musical thing, combined her soulful original songs with twists on classic hits, captivating the audience.

And The Giddy Gringos had the crowd dancing to hot South American rhythms including the Salsa, Mambo, Cha-cha and Boogaloo styles.

Anthony Kinsey, co-founder and musical director of Sadd Fest, and his seven-strong band, Schwing, led the partygoers into a swinging, jumping and jiving set.

And the show’s headliners, Baked A La Ska, had the audience dancing to their compelling foot-tapping selection of ska music.

Funds raised will underpin Round Table¹s community-wide Christmas party for the elderly and the spectacular Winter Wonderland in Uppermill.
