JOVIAL PETER Percival has retired from the legendary Greenfield Real Ale Brewery.
Peter’s brewing experience began 16 years ago in the very early days of the microbrewery revival which has seen a boom in award-winning, quality ales being produced locally.
Starting at the Church Inn Uppermill, he eventually began and brewed at Greenfield Real Ale Brewery over 10 years ago.
Many classic local beers have been produced over the years with familiar local names such as Dobcross Bitter, Uppermill Ale and Delph Donkey.
New brewer Richard Thomas started at the brewery over a year ago and now brews our classic beers along with a new range. Richard is currently working on a new beer called ‘Silver Owl’ requested by Oldham CAMRA to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Oldham beer festival on the April 12, 2013.
At last year’s festival Richard won a silver ward for a beer called Terry’s Mild a dark beer with a rich chocolate taste with a hint of orange on the finish.
Brewery MD Tony Harratt said: “ Peter will be missed by all at the brewery.
“However we do expect to see him around Christmas time to collect a cask of ‘Rudolph’s Tipple’ – one of his favourite beers and brewed to his original recipe with honey and winter spices.”
