Poignant concert and cheque presentation is boost for OMRT

THERE was a poignant air to a fundraising concert for Oldham Mountain Rescue Team as one of the audience members was rescued by the team.

Greenfield Methodist Church organised the concert and cheque presentation for OMRT, also based in the village, at their Chew Valley Road venue.

One of the church members attending was stretchered off Alderman’s Hill on Remembrance Sunday by the team 25 years ago following a medical emergency.

Rev Ken McNally said: “Happily, that member is still with us! Thank you OMRT!”

The concert saw a septet perform to an audience of 60 people. Andy Taylor, OMR Team Doctor, gave a talk in the interval and comical entertainment was provided by David Hewett, a local solicitor and church member, who recited Stanley Holloway monologues.

After, Councillor Helen Bishop, chair of Saddleworth Parish Council, received the cheque for £812 on behalf of OMRT, which is one of her chosen charities during her year of office.

The cheque was presented by Rachael Gibbon, professional musician and teacher.

  • The Chairman’s Civic Service will take place at Greenfield Methodist Church on Sunday, February 1 at 2pm. All are welcome at this public act of worship to recognise Councillor Bishop’s year of office.
