SADDLEWORTH POLICE are monitoring the bus turnaround circle in Uppermill to ensure is it not used as a waiting zone by motorists.
Numerous cars have used the area, quite often parents who are picking up pupils for the nearby Saddleworth School, despite the ‘no entry’ sign except for buses.
Police, working with Saddleworth School, are advising motorists to park elsewhere and are handing out a leaflet outlining S36 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Local taxi firms are also being notified as a number of private hire vehicles are using the layby as a lay-up point.
If this initial effort fails to change the behaviour of drivers, police will move to enforcement of the regulations.
