Police seek four men after distraction thefts at Oldham cash machines

POLICE HAVE issued four images after a number of distraction thefts in Oldham town centre.

Between 13 and 29 October 2015, four men targeted elderly women between the ages of 73 and 84 just before they withdrew money from cash machines.

The men distracted the women, claiming they were using the cash machine the wrong way and managed to obtain their pin numbers.  When they left, the men withdrew money.

The incidents took place outside Yorkshire Bank on Market Place, Barclays on High Street, and twice outside Lloyds TSB on Market Place.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may recognise the men to contact them.

Inspector Mark Davis said: “It is terrible these women have been targeted in this way and those responsible appear well practised in committing these crimes.

“We believe they could be committing similar offences elsewhere and I would appeal for anyone who recognise those in the images to contact us.

“I would ask people to be vigilant and take precautions.   Please be aware of your surroundings and make sure you cover the keys when you type in your pin number.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
