Police warn of dangers of ‘tombstoning’ after rescuing youths at Dovestone Reservoir

POLICE ARE warning of the dangers of ‘tombstoning’ into Dovestone Reservoir after two recent incidents when youths were injured.

They posted the message onto their Facebook account after rescuing the young people at the beauty spot in Greenfield.

They wrote: “Large groups of youths are swimming and jumping into Dovestone Reservoir.

“PCSOs had to rescue two males from the water. One male very nearly drowned and went under the water several times struggling.

“Police had to treat and take a female youth to hospital with a bad cut to her foot after going in the reservoir.

“Another youth had an ankle injury after slipping on rocks.

“Please teach your kids the dangers of open water.

“A police underwater rescue team are the last people they may swim with!”
