THE closure of Dobcross Post Office is only “temporary”, the Independent has been told.
The Post Office and most recently Dobcross Village Store, both run by Anna Roscoe, have shut their doors on Woods Lane.
Anna took over the premises in June 2017, succeeding Sukhi Singh who had been behind the counter for more than 17 years.
Post Office services ceased at the premises around four months ago before the Village Shop also closed on November 10 for the foreseeable future.
But in a move to re-assure villagers concerned at the loss of a valuable community facility, a Post Office spokesperson confirmed to the Independent a new sub postmaster/mistress is being sought.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Dobcross Post Office,” they said.
“We understand how important a Post Office can be to a community and would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore services to them as soon as possible.
“Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk or contact us on 0333 345 5560 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
The closest Post Office services are available at premises in Diggle, Delph and Uppermill.
The Village Store, which sold a selection of every-day items, is now closed
