Knowsley Primary pupils get creative for Enterprise Week

INVENTIVE PRIMARY school pupils came up with a host of colourful and creative products as they took on a testing enterprise challenge.

Each of the 12 classes at Knowsley Junior School was tasked with designing, making and then selling a product in just a week.

Armed with £50 sponsorship money donated by local businesses, they developed finance plans, marketing tools and selling strategies.

Their hard work culminated in an Enterprise Fair to sell their items, which included cookies, plates, memory boards, stress balls, plants, key rings, magnets, pencil toppers and denim iPod bags.

Some of the teams also organised mini games and competitions to entice people to their stalls, including guess how many sweets in the bowl.

A host of judges, including parents, staff and representatives from local businesses, took in the bright array of products and spoke to the teams about the projects.

Awards – with a prize fund donated by the Rotary Club of Saddleworth – were presented to the team with the most overall profit, as well as others including best idea.

Rotary Club President and event judge Richard Bartlett, whose company Insped Limited was also one of the local sponsors, was impressed by the quality on show.

He said: “I came in and did a talk about how to sell their products and the children have really listened.

“They had some great ideas at the event two years ago but this one is even better.”

Teacher Mrs Hannah Jeffares, lead organiser of the event, said: “Everyone has worked together really well and I have been amazed at some of the things they have come up with.

“They have been ringing companies asking for sponsorship and donations and have secured it all themselves.”
