Promotion delight for rising rugby stars

WATERHEAD WARRIORS’ under-14s celebrated another remarkable season after completing back-to-back promotions.

They were crowned North West Counties League, first division champions and next season will be playing in the top flight.

The youngsters also made it a double winning the Oldham Cup.

There have also been successes for the under-13 and 15 sides that have been earlier featured in the Independent.

Elsewhere, there was also success for Saddleworth Rangers’s under-14s as they clinched the North West Counties League, division two title with the final game of the season.

Earlier in the year they had also stormed to the final of the NWC Development Cup, but lost out to a strong Heysham Atoms side.

Proud coach Danny England said: “The effort and desire of the lads has never been in question but some big game nerves when it mattered have often overshadowed ability.

“This has been a transitional season for many, and hopefully, with a big pre-season effort, a big stepping stone to more consistency and greater success next year.”

And the under-12s were also celebrating as they convincingly beat Rochdale Mayfield 34-4 in the final of the Oldham Youth and Junior Rugby League Cup.
