Pub marks fourth birthday with birthday weekend bonanza

A BIRTHDAY Weekend bonanza at a popular Grasscroft pub will mark the fourth anniversary of it being sparked back into life.

Anthony Kinsey, 37, took over the Farrars Arms in October 2010 after it had been closed for six months.p12 Farrars Arms

He has revitalised it with live music nights on Sundays and expanded the mouth-watering menu, which now includes light lunches, Tapas and pub favourites served all day every day with special deals on Tuesdays to Fridays.

The cosy pub, with a black tiled bar, vintage furniture, original features and a real open fire, also offers a selection of beers, cask ales, wine, cocktails and coffees for any occasion.

Anthony, a musician who had never run a pub before, explained: “I used to play here and loved coming in and I just didn’t want the Farrars to be shut.

“It was a labour of love to get it how we wanted it. We wanted to keep it as a welcoming, traditional pub but make sure to add a contemporary feel too.

“The pub industry has changed a lot recently and we have to keep developing different things to cater for everyone, from families, diners and our regulars.

“We’ve become more of an eatery and had to develop that side of things, which is all coming together nicely now. I’m still here four years on so we must be doing something right!

“Of course there have been ups and downs but I’ve loved it and hopefully I’ll be here a long time still.”

And to celebrate four successful years in business, the pub is hosting a trio of fun events, starting on October 31 – the exact date Anthony reopened the pub.

The first event on Friday, October 31 is a Halloween Party, complete with themed cocktails and shots, scary costumes, live music, and a late disco.

Then on Saturday, November 1 a Northern Soul Party Night will take place back by popular demand and will feature DJ Martin the Mod.

And rounding off the celebrations on Sunday, November 2 will be Live Music from ‘Squid Lips’, Anthony’s band.

The pub has also launched a brand new cocktails menu to tickle the taste-buds, and they are running a 2 for 1 offer until the end of November.

And they have just revealed their tasty and adventurious Christmas menu to help customers finish the year with a bang, with three delicious courses for £27.95 per person (book in advance, 10 per cent discount before November 14).
