Pupils impress on the dance floor as Strictly comes to St Chad’s

THERE WERE glittering costumes and eye-catching dance moves at St Chad’s Junior School in Uppermill as pupils took to the floor for a Strictly Come Dancing competition.

The Year 6 pupils spent six months honing their skills, with expert tuition from Jenny Tetlow of Jet Dance Studios, learning the jive, salsa, bollywood and streetdance.

Then the 19 couples showed off their moves to the rest of the school, parents and the judges as they competed for the title, introduced by special hosts ‘Tess’ and ‘Claudia’.

Their dances were judged by ‘Darcey’ and ‘Arlene’, St Chad’s very own Strictly judges, and the scores were so close that it came down to a dance-off to decide the winners.

After a very impressive and energetic dance off, Eleanor Bird and Ben Hadfield were crowned St Chad’s Strictly Champions 2016.

Jenny said: “Well done to everyone who took part. It’s not easy to get up and dance in front of that many people and they were all fantastic.”

Talented pupils also helped out with the sound and lighting for the event in the school hall.

The show ended with a group dance by Year 6 to show of their Bollywood and ‘attitude’ street dances as they performed together for the final time and got a standing ovation.
