Push the boat out

HAVE you ever walked around Dovestone Reservoir and, when seeing sailing boats bobbing about on the water, thought ‘I’d like to try that’?

Well, Push the Boat Out is an open day when you can try your hand.

The Royal Yachting Association is planning a week of national activity promoting sailing as a sport.

There will be hundreds of sailing clubs taking part up and down the country, and at Dovestone in Greenfield they are supporting the initiative by organising an open day on Sunday, May 12.

People can book on a ‘taster session’ and try out the sport, with the cost just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children under 16.

Last year the club took more than 80 individuals out on the water ranging from six-years-old to 60 plus.

Many went on to book RYA training courses as a result of their experience and a number of youths joined the clubs RYA On Board training scheme.

If anyone is interested they can reserve a slot by emailing club Commodore Andy Goddard at andyg@mailprintsolutions.uk or calling on 07881 516965.
