Manchester Victoria and Salford Central stations will be shut from March 24 until April 3 as part of construction work on the £85 million Ordsall Chord link between Victoria, Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly stations.

Passengers travelling from Greenfield Station to Piccadilly will change at Stalybridge as usual.

Those going to Victoria can use replacement bus services at Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne provided by Northern Rail.

There is provision to take the tram from Ashton to Victoria but journey times on Metrolink are scheduled for 42 minutes.

Rob Warnes, planning and programmes director at Northern Rail, said: “We would encourage our customers to check before they travel and ask at their local station for more information.”

Martin Frobisher, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “I recognise this work will cause disruption for passengers.

“But I would urge people to view this short-term pain against the long-term gain it will help achieve for Manchester and people and businesses across the North of England.”
