Grants are available from the Saddleworth Hydro Sustainability Fund to support renewable energy and carbon reduction projects in Saddleworth and neighbouring areas.

The first round of funding was awarded this July and now the fund is open for the next round of proposals, with a maximum size grant of £1,000.

Saddleworth Community Hydro group said: “This is a modest amount as this is a small community initiative and still in the pilot phase, but a very useful sum to a community organisation, a school or church.

“We would particularly welcome applications that will enable young people to participate in activities concerning renewable energy, reduction of carbon emissions and climate change.

“This supports The Oldham Pledge, which seeks to ensure all Year 7 pupils will be able to contribute to environmental sustainability, amongst other things.”

The Fund is open to organisations based in Saddleworth and neighbouring areas and deadline for applications is Friday, December 22, 2017, with grants being given by February 2018.

The application form and guidance notes are on the Saddleworth Community Hydro website:

Last year’s recipients included Saddleworth Museum who got £500 to repair their photo-voltaic panels, and Mossley Heritage Centre, who got £100 towards low-energy lamps.
