Rescue Team grateful for funding boost

GREENFIELD based Oldham Mountain Rescue Team will not go hungry or thirsty during next month’s special training weekend.

They have received a £100 donation towards refreshments from Tesco on Chew Valley Road as thanks for their ongoing work across the borough.

Greg Barratt, the store’s community champion, said: “This worthy team were involved in extinguishing the moorland fires last summer so we are happy to present them with this amount.”

Steph Pelmore, whose husband Barry was OMRT’s chief fundraiser for many years until his death last July, was delighted to receive the cheque on behalf of OMRT based at Boarshurst business park, pictured above.

• Justin Parkinson has been appointed Chair of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team at the team’s AGM.

Justin has been with the team since 2004, held the role of Equipment Officer for about 10 years and recently took on the role of Water Rescue Officer.

The team’s new leader is Rob Tortoishell, who joined the team in 1997 and is a keen climber and mountaineer.

Treasurer is David Wyatt who joined in 2008 and has held the roles of section leader and Treasurer for the last four years.

Tony Gillon, a team member since 1989, has taken on the role of Company Secretary for the last 18 years.
