Residents have only days left to register to vote

Oldham Council is reminding residents that the deadline to ensure you are registered to take part in the local elections is looming.

ballot-boxjpg-83e9335f91dea090Thursday, May 5 is an opportunity for residents of the borough to select their councillors, and no one should miss out on exercising their democratic right.

The deadline for registering to vote is Monday, April 18.

If you are planning to be away on May 5 you can apply to vote by post or proxy. This can be done by visiting www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or by contacting Oldham Council’s Elections Office.

The application deadline for a postal vote is 5pm on May 19, and the deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on April 26. Please note that if you have a postal vote you cannot change this to a proxy vote after April 19.

To be able to vote residents must be on the electoral register. If you think you may not be on the register you should contact the Elections Office as soon as possible. Staff will send you a registration form to be completed and returned.

The verification and count for the council elections will be on the night of Thursday, May 5 after the polls close at 10pm. This takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, West Street, Oldham.
