Royton students celebrate GCSE success

STUDENTS, parents and staff gathered to celebrate their GCSE results as Year 11 pupils at E-ACT The Oldham Academy North marked the end of their secondary education journey.

The Royton-based academy welcomed students back to collect their results, with many now preparing to move on to sixth form, college, apprenticeships and other post-16 pathways.

Among the highest achievers was Head Boy Sulaiman Akram, who secured a set of grades which included nine Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and one Grade 7.

Staff praised his commitment both inside and outside the classroom, noting that he regularly went above and beyond in his independent studies. His hard work was also recognised through his appointment as an E-ACT Ambassador.

Another standout student was Hamza Hussain, who achieved eight Grade 9s and three Grade 8s. Alongside his own academic success, Hamza has been recognised for supporting fellow students throughout the year and has ambitions of becoming a neurologist.

Future medic Tasnem Sneha also celebrated an impressive set of results, earning eight Grade 9s and three Grade 8s, including a top grade in Further Mathematics. Teachers described her as a consistently hardworking and respectful student, who approached both classroom learning and home study with dedication.

Meanwhile, Zaim Khan achieved eight Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and one Grade 7, including a Grade 9 in Further Mathematics. Aspiring to a career in finance and accountancy, Zaim was praised for his commitment to improving throughout the year and acting on feedback to maximise his potential.

‘A successful year’

Headteacher Natalie Kennerley paid tribute to the achievements of this year’s cohort.

“Today is about celebrating our students and the commitment they have shown throughout their time at Oldham North,” she said.

“We are incredibly proud of the determination they have demonstrated and the way they have risen to challenges along the way. It has been fantastic to celebrate their achievements with them today, and we look forward to seeing what they go on to accomplish.”

The strong results reflect a successful year for the Broadway-based academy, with staff, students and families sharing in celebrations throughout the day.

“These achievements reflect the hard work of students, the dedication of staff and the support of families. It has been a successful year for the academy, and we are proud of everything the school community has achieved together.”

For many students, the results mark the beginning of a new chapter, with plans ranging from A-level study and vocational courses to apprenticeships and future careers in medicine, finance and beyond.
