A SPRINGHEAD beauty salon’s Christmas party doubled up as a fundraiser for a Down’s syndrome charity.
The event at Saddleworth Rangers, organised by Ruche Beauty and Training Academy, raised £1,405 for DSWestPennine Shining Stars, a parent-led support group for families of children with Down’s syndrome.
When beauty shop owners Rachel Rogers and Ruth Coates decided to have their Christmas party, they hit upon the idea of inviting their clients and raise money for a worthy cause.
Rachel said: “Frances Battle, one of my clients, set up the charity in 2010. It is a great cause but doesn’t get a lot of publicity.
“I have organised fundraising events before such as Royal Ascot days and done several 10k runs.”
This was the largest event with 115 women attending.
There was a three-course meal and entertainment provided by singer Jackie Dijon and DJ Joe Taylor, a member of Saddleworth Rangers’ Under-16s team, who goes under the name SR – 19.
Rachel and Ruth celebrated the first anniversary of the opening of Ruche Beauty and Training Academy on January 8, describing the first year of the business as “amazing”.
