MORE THAN a hundred people of all ages clambered across the hills for the inaugural Saddleworth Rangers Alderman’s Ascent.
Sixty-seven juniors began their race at Binn Green while 52 adults set off from Churchill to brave the hills of Greenfield, including Pots and Pans.
Darren Graham, who organised the race in aid of next year’s Saddleworth Rangers U15s tour to France, was delighted with the event, which raised around £1,000.
“It was a good turnout for a mid-week race and especially a first race,” he said. “The weather could have been kinder, but it could have been a lot worse as well!
“Everyone commented on a great event and Julie’s soup, served to the seniors after the race.
“The feedback was that it was a cracking route. Hopefully it’s now going to grow and grow.”
A provisional date for next year’s event is Thursday, July 6, 2017.
