Saddleworth Children’s Book Group seeks new volunteers to keep pages turning

ARE you passionate about books and reading?  Would you like to help your child enjoy reading and get involved in activities around books?

If the answer is yes, you could be the person to help Saddleworth Children’s Book Group turn over a new leaf.

The group was launched by four local mums in 2014 with the aim of inspiring children to love reading.

Events since then have included a talk by best-selling author Saviour Pirotta, a visit from Lonely Planet Kids for a map-making session, a guided tour around the John Rylands Library, a Harry Potter film night and a Roald Dahl-themed party.

Events have been really well supported by Saddleworth families but now it’s the end of the chapter for the founding group, who are looking for a new committee to take over and put their own stamp on it.

Roles that need filling include chair, treasurer, secretary, social media coordinator and events organiser.

The original committee want to say thank you to all those who have come to past events and will be happy to share their experience with anyone who wants to get involved.

Assistance is also available from the Federation of Children’s Book Groups (FCBG), a national registered charity established in the 1960s.

Please email if you are interested in helping the group. Sadly, the group will have to fold unless fresh organisers come forward.
