A SADDLEWORTH farm is celebrating national recognition after its Heritage Old Season Lamb Shoulder received a coveted two-star Great Taste Award.
Ivy Cottage Pedigree Ryelands, a small family-run holding specialising in pedigree Ryeland sheep, earned the accolade in this year’s Great Taste Awards – widely regarded as one of the food industry’s highest honours.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, the awards are judged by hundreds of chefs, food critics, food buyers and industry experts, with only products demonstrating exceptional flavour and quality receiving two stars.
The award recognises the farm’s commitment to traditional farming methods, high standards of animal welfare and slow-growing heritage breeds.
Owner Karl Jones said he was thrilled to receive the national recognition.
“We’re absolutely delighted,” he said. “We put huge care into every aspect of how we rear our Ryeland sheep, so to receive a Two-Star Great Taste Award is incredibly rewarding.
“It’s fantastic recognition for what can be achieved on a small family farm, and we’re excited to share the success with our local community.”
To mark the achievement, Ivy Cottage Pedigree Ryelands, which stands on the hills between Austerlands and Strinesdale, will host a Great Taste Celebration at the farm on Saturday, August 30, from 3pm.
Visitors will have the chance to sample the award-winning Heritage Old Season Lamb alongside other produce from the farm, while enjoying live music from The Walkers and refreshments from a licensed bar serving beer and wine.
The event aims to celebrate local food, farming and live music in the heart of the Saddleworth countryside.
