Saddleworth Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild miss their target – JUST!

AN AMBITIOUS target of £20,000 was set by the Saddleworth Ladies Lifeboat Guild to be raised in 2014 – which they fell short of by just £800.

Their impressive total of £19,200 was raised through events including their annual Cream Tea, coffee mornings, a Cross Morecambe Bay Walk, a quiz night and their Annual Luncheon.

Joan Halkyard, Chairman of the SLLG, said: “Narrowly missing the target has spurred us on to increase our efforts for 2015.”

The Guild has already set the ball rolling with £650 raised at a heart-warming charity night courtesy of Saddleworth Players.

An encouraging boost to their plans is the news that the RNLI is the chosen charity for 2014/2015 of Julie Ward, Saddleworth Golf Club’s Lady Captain.

The Guild has arranged a very full programme of events for the year ahead including three coffee mornings between April and November and garden events on June 6 and 7.

Their very popular Cream Tea, which raised £2,000 last year, will be held at the Civic Hall, Uppermill, on July 7 when they hope to have to put up the ‘house full’ notices once again.

Then on July 11 a repeat of last year’s Cross Morecambe Bay Walk, which raised £6,200, is open to all-comers.

The year will be rounded off with the Annual Luncheon at the White Hart, Lydgate, on Sunday, September 27 and their challenging end-of-year Quiz Night at Greenfield Conservative Club on November 20.

Each and every event is accompanied by a stall of RNLI top quality souvenirs, Christmas cards, Saddleworth teddy bears and much more.
