Saddleworth ladies stepping out in style in aid of a good cause

THE Saddleworth Ladies Fundraising Committee is looking for an end-of-year boost to its activities by hosting a winter fashion show on Thursday, November 30.

In association with Lucy Cobb, the event at Denshaw Village Hall will help raise money and awareness for the Tameside, Oldham and Glossop branch of MIND, the mental health charity.

Entry costs £5 and there will also be a bar, other refreshments plus beauty and gift stalls. Tickets can be obtained by calling Clare on: 07932 953241.

Each January, the Committee, which was founded in the late 1940s to raise money to buy guide dogs for the blind, selects a local charity to support and in recent years has raised an annual average of £12,000.

Groups to have benefited include: OSCA (Oldham Supports Carers for Autism), Christie’s Oldham, Mahdlo, Oldham Mountain Rescue, When You Wish Upon A Star, Oldham Young Carers, Cold Nights and many more.

A charity is selected each January following the SLFC Annual Ball, at The White Hart, Lydgate. and it is important it is local, or one that can commit to any funds raised being used in the Oldham area.

While MIND is a national charity, funds raised will be used exclusively in the local area.

Each year, SLFC holds many events including: fashion shows, comedy nights, girls’ nights, Bollywood themed night, school disco themed night, family roller skating day and other sponsored events.

The Annual Ball is always a sell-out and plans are already underway for the 2018 event on Saturday, January 27.

The theme will be ‘Singing in the Rain’ with a DJ, live band and plenty of food and drink.

The Committee is always looking for support from locals, either attending events, donating raffle prizes or sponsorship towards the cost of a band or disco.

Events are advertised on the Ladies’ Fundraising Committee’s Facebook page.
