A POIGNANT remembrance service was held in Uppermill to mark the 75thanniversary of the D Day Landings during World War II.
The service on June 5, organised by the Saddleworth branch of the Royal British Legion, took place at the war memorial in St Chad’s Gardens to commemorate the largest seaborne invasion in history.
Other RBL branches were in attendance, with standards borne by Saddleworth (Alison Clowes), Lees & District (Philip Hughes), and Ashton Under Lyne (Scott Pringle).
The Union Flag was carried by Simon Wareing and the 2200 Oldham Squadron banner was carried by Flt Sgt Cameron Lorne.
The service was taken by Rev Aaron Jackson, with a reading by Cpl James Barnes. Parade Marshall WO Ken Duffy lead the parade and John Whittle played The Last Post and Reveille, with Uppermill Band playing the hymns.
Wreaths were laid by Saddleworth RBL’s chairman Paddy Diamond, Lees and District vice chairman Ian Boulton, and the ATC Cdt Thomas Worsley.
