DEDICATED fundraisers from Saddleworth Mothers Club served up a treat at their Coffee Morning to raise £400 for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Oldham.

The ladies held the event, which included a raffle, tombola and delicious homemade cakes, after choosing the cause as their chosen charity for 2017-18.

They presented the cheque to Laura Tomlinson, who is fundraising manager at Maggie’s which opened in June this year in the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Laura said: “Thank you so much! This will go a long way to helping our staff who work there and the people they support.

“A cancer support specialist can support over 100 people with £300, so this will do just more than that.

“We only opened in June so to get this kind of support so early on is wonderful.”

Maggie’s Oldham is the 21st such retreat opened since the first one in Edinburgh in 1996, and they are named after founder Maggie Keswick Jencks who died from cancer in 1995.

The Centre, intended to feel more like a home than a hospital, offers psychological support, advice, nutrition workshops, relaxation and stress management, art therapy and yoga.
