Saddleworth savours success with Brierley Cup in Oldham District Championship

SADDLEWORTH GOLF Club hosted the Oldham District Championship and savoured success lifting the Brierley Cup.

The success was in the team competition in which the best four scores in the 36-hole competition counted towards the prize.

The triumphant team comprised Jamie Heywood (152), Simon Fancy (158), Mark Orme (158) and Martin Orme (152).

But it was Crompton and Royton member Kris Sutcliffe who won the main individual scratch event with a two-round total of 146 from club match Mike Shaw who was runner-up with 151.

Saddleworth’s Heywood also won the best nett prize with 146 from club mate Martin Orme who, too, returned 146.

The event was played over one day and in the morning it was very wet and groundstaff worked hard to keep the course open.
