THE area’s unique landscape shaped by water is captured in an eye-catching exhibition of paintings and photographs at Saddleworth Museum Art Gallery.
Artist Sheila Dewsbury and photographer Michael Fox are displaying their works featuring waterways around the area from the river and canal to mill dams, reservoirs, streams and even puddles.
Sheila is a council member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. Her oil paintings of the northern landscape have been exhibited at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in London at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Oil Painters.
Nearer to home, Gallery Oldham recently bought a painting for its permanent collection.
Michael’s life-long association with Saddleworth has nurtured his deep interest in its history and landscape.
In addition to co-authoring several publications on the history of Saddleworth, he has spent hundreds of hours walking in and photographing its landscape.
Formerly a probation officer and member of the Parole Board, Michael has recently retired.
The exhibition opens Saturday, July 14 and runs until Sunday, August 12 at Saddleworth Museum Art Gallery, Uppermill.
Open daily from 1pm–4pm, Admission is free.
