A TALENTED swimmer returned to her childhood club in Saddleworth after almost 20 years to hand out awards at their annual presentations.
Jenny Lunn, 35, travelledfrom London to present the trophies at Saddleworth Swimming Club as around 100 children and parents gathered for the event at Uppermill Cricket Club.
With swimmers aged seven to 18 years old at the club, awards were presented in age groups followed by trophies for team spirit and most improved swimmers.
And the prestigious Swimmers’ Swimmer cup, named in memory of local teenager Andrew Curwell who died aged 18, was awarded to Lily Aaronson.
Jenny, who still holds two club records set in 1987 and 1991 for breaststroke, said she was honoured to be asked to return to the club and present their awards.
Originally from Delph, Jenny took part in the first ever Saddleworth Village Olympics in 1985 where she was talented spotted by Saddleworth Swimming Club and invited to join.
Still swimming competitively, she said: “It’s really nice to come back to where it all started. I attended many of these events and I’m very happy to be asked back.
“It’s such a nice feeling to see the club still doing well and how it’s all working out. It’s strange to see my name on so many of the cups!”
