Saddleworth WI knitters get creative to help poppy appeal

KIND-HEARTED KNITTERS turned their talents to a good cause as they sold their hand-crafted remembrance poppies to raise £253.50 for the Royal British Legion.

Members of the Saddleworth WI Craft Group created more than 100 bright red poppies, which proved so popular with friends, family and colleagues that they soon sold out.

The WI would like to thank PSP Meesons and Sophie’s Crafts of Huddersfield Road for their continued support with the sale of the hand-knitted poppies.

This year, generous locals helped the Saddleworth Branch of the Royal British Legion raise £7,450 for their Poppy Appeal by leaving donations in the 150 boxes in businesses across the community.

Branch member Arthur Hinchliffe said: “We’re very pleased and would like to thank the people of Saddleworth and the businesses for supporting us as they always do.”
