Saddleworth WI launch centenary year celebrations with successful fundraiser

Saddleworth WIEXCITING CELEBRATION events will be held in Saddleworth throughout 2015 to mark 100th birthday of the WI as well as raise funds for charity.

The Saddleworth WI’s first event was a stunning Fashion Show in March at Greenfield Conservative Club, which proved a huge success as it raised more than £800.

Along with a fashion show, there were stalls, tarot readings and a raffle, and proceeds will be donated to the Sadddleworth WI’s chosen charity for 2015, Funky Fitness and Fun.

They are a non-profit making community group based in Greenfield who promote health and well being for adults with additional needs and they are currently raising funds for a much-needed minibus.

The next fundraiser is an ‘Off the Rails Comedy Club’ night at the Royal George, Manchester Road, Greenfield, on Saturday April 18.

Tickets cost £10 in advance and are available online from the Comedy Club, from the Royal George, at WI monthly meetings or telephone 07866 541560.

The speaker at their monthly meeting in April was Maureen Wray, a professional violinist with the Halle Orchestra turned Iyengar Yoga teacher with her own studio in Lees.

Then to celebrate the WI’s landmark birthday in style, a Centenary Ball will be held at the Saddleworth Hotel on Friday October 16.

Tickets are £40 and will include welcome drinks and canapés, a three-course meal, then entertainment so guests can dance the night away with ‘The Threetles’.

The Saddleworth WI meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Saddleworth Hotel from 7.30pm. New members and guests are always welcome.
